INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

An input device sends information to a computer system for processing,

An output device reproduces or displays the results of that processing.

Examples of input and output devices

Input devices transmit information in three ways for instance ;to or from a person,to or from an element of the environment and to or from a network.(for example a rain detector)

Humans have five senses touch ,smell, taste and sight that determine how information is recieved from an input device  for instance  olfactory produces smells, tactile map over a touch screen.Interface is used as an method which helps in transferring of information between the internal storage devices i.e. memory and the external peripheral device . A peripheral device is that which provide input and output for the computer, it is also called Input-Output devices. For Example: A keyboard and mouse provide Input to the computer are called input devices while a monitor and printer that provide output to the computer are called output devices. Just like the external hard-drives, there is also availability of some peripheral devices which are able to provide both input and output.

Different input devices and their importances

Input devices

Mouse

mouse input device

A mouse is another important input device. It uses point-and-click technology to interact with the system.

Monitor

A monitor is one of the most important output devices. It receives output from the processing unit and displays that output.

Keyboard

It allows the user to enter letters, numbers, and symbols. When a user presses a key on a keyboard, the keyboard sends a unique signal to the computer.

Joystick

A joystick is an input device that can be used for controlling the movement of the cursor or a pointer in a computer device.

Scanner

Scanner collects images from the source and converts them to a digital format that may be saved on a disc.

Speakers

speakers are attached to computers to facilitate the output of sound.

Projector

this is a display device that projects a computer-created image onto another surface: usually some sort of whiteboard or wall.
