MEDIA LITERACY 1

 

Module 1160 is about emerging technologies. These are technologies whose development, practical applications, or both are still largely unrealized, such that they are figuratively developing into greater and helpful ideas from unacknowledged background. (IGI Global,2022). This module is supposed to boast our critical thinking skills for problems to be solved through technology and at the same time we must remain creative when it comes to portraying our ideas. According to Veloso (2022), some emerging technologies include virtual reality, robot journalism,5G or wi-fi 6, wearable journalism and video technology. Week one, as the introduction to the module, I was   taught about media literacy. Media literacy whereby we use the means accessible to us work on video, sound and photo strategies used by people to display the different type of content that appears on different media platforms for example editing using different apps. These include YouTube for tutorial and uploading of videos, Pinterest to get ideas. Firstly, as a class we were given two simple exercises where one was to edit the Middlesex homepage and add an artistic filter and change its color, the other was to change the eye color using an app called photo editor whereby our help came from watching a you tube tutorial. Secondly, we understood that machines use binary whereby we learnt how to convert decimal to binary and binary back to decimal. Thirdly we talked about pixels and how they appear in red, green and blue. For the end of the lecture, we are required to write a blog about what we have covered and for this week were given an assignment about how to use audacity and upload a video of ourselves showing a tutorial into YouTube. Lastly how to manipulate sound in a digital manner to remove unnecessary sound from the presentation and produce the best quality audios at optimum level.

Media literacy is essential in the age of social media, where misinformation and fake news are prevalent. It is crucial to evaluate the credibility and reliability of the information presented in virtual environments and the recommendations provided by smart systems and recommender systems.

Secondly I downloaded the photoshop app that had the necesary equipment to produce the output above
